Locks for Shipping Containers: We Answer Your Questions

Seguratainer locks the container from the inside and requires no keys.
Seguratainer external locks can only be opened with an authorized smartphone.
How is that even possible?

Here are the answers to the most common questions we hear:

“You don’t use keys?”
Keys can be lost, borrowed or forged, and leave no trace of when and where they were used, or by whom. Traditional keys keep you blind. They are an unnecessary and costly headache in this day and age.

“If not keys… what do I use to open my container?”
We turn your smartphone into a digital NFC key.
And you can control all locks and keys from your laptop.

Only you can grant or deny access rights to authorized personnel. You can remotely give access rights to anybody’s phone in just few clicks from anywhere in the world. All actions from that new (or any existing) user are logged onto the platform giving you a 24/7 audit trail record.

“Are Digital Keys safe?”
Seguratainer uses NFC technology to operate its shipping container locks.
This is the same heavily encrypted technology used by financial institutions around the world for touchless payments. All new phones are equipped with NFC antennas.

“What if someone attacks my container?”

Seguratainer offers internal locks for shipping containers and closed body trucks. Internal means all locking points are installed inside the container. Put a thief in front of your container, they will not know where to strike.

Seguratainer also offers external and patented locks which have been tested in South Africa against heavy attacks: crow bars, industrial pulling, blow torches… Our locks are designed to resists as long as possible all attacks.

What about the battery?
Seguratainer locks are dormant during transit or storage until the user places his or her phone on the NFC received. At that moment, the lock wakes up, ascertains the location and credentials of that phone and user, and allows or deny access to the goods. Most of that heavy lifting is done by the phone itself, synced with the cloud-based platform.

For these reasons, Seguratainer locks are not heavy battery consumers. The batteries installed within the locks will operate for years and thousands of cycles, even in very harsh weather conditions. Lastly, the management platform informs you of all the locks battery status so you stay on top of things.
